WordRace
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
WordRace
This is a simple, yet a bit (technically) advanced , puzzle racing game made for the VimJam5 gamejam.
The goal is quite simple. Push the letters into place to form the requested word to open the portal and escape from the room. And try doing it faster than those who have played the level before you.
The game needs network to get the racing part and you will have to log in. Just follow the instructions on the login screen and then show what you got.
The game was written using Dragon Ruby and Ruby On Rails.
Oh, and don't bother trying running the game from a browser. The network stuff goes all bananas and I had to fix more important issues. I might fix that at a later date.
The game will be updated until deadline. Expect bugs :)
Gameplay
Although the games is really simple: just spell the word, there is a strategic element and also some skill needed to execute on the strategy. Where do you choose to build your word to minimize the number of moves? In what order should you move the letters? Should they be moved all the way at once?
You can brute force the game and just push the buttons really fast, but the correct strategy will crush brute force . Of course it is best to combine the two...
Learn from others and then outsmart them.
Security and capacity
This game uses very simple security measures. Your password will be stored in plaintext on your machine! So please, use something that is just for this. On serverside it is encrypted but I could theoretically decrypt it so again: Do not trust the security. This is a game jam implementation .
The server is a rather slow FreeBSD machine . It generally doesn't crash, and I am not expecting a rush of players so it should do just fine. I hope :)
